You will be swept up in the 500 year story of Beaufort "The Jewel of the South" as told by Janet Matlock, whose passion for history is equaled only by her delight in telling it to visitors to our beautiful town. |

Janet moved to the Lowcountry in 2006. As she learned to love the weather and the culture, she studied the history and architecture of the area, and her friendly nature led her to become a docent giving visitor tours at the oldest church in Beaufort. One fine day, while both she and Jon Sharp, the originator of this tour, were showing the church graveyard to their groups, she overheard his stories and realized what a treasure HE was. She listened to his tour through the churchyard as often as she could, and her own narrative improved. When Jon announced that he was retiring in the summer of 2014, Janet knew it would be a loss to the community, but gave little thought...until she woke the next day knowing it might be the opportunity of her life...and the rest is history. Wynn joined Janet's company as a walking tour guide last spring. You will find him dedicated to the same compassionate and informative historical entertainment that this tour has always embodied. |
